Description

Mark Fisher, author of How to Write About Theatre, leads a criticism workshop at the Santiago a Mil festival, Chile

In this lively and interactive How to Write About Theatre online workshop, author Mark Fisher will introduce the principles of theatre criticism and show you how to put them into practice. You’ll journey from the present day into the past, learning lessons from history about how to think about theatre. He’ll show you how to discuss this most ephemeral of art forms – and how to make your writing come alive as you do so.

Choose the time and date that suits you and place your order. On the day of the workshop, you’ll receive an invitation to connect to the workshop on Zoom.

There is a small amount of writing involved, so either have a notepad and pen to hand or use your computer. Make sure your audio and video are on so you can ask questions along the way. The more you join in, the better the experience will be.

This online theatre reviewing workshop with Guardian theatre critic, Mark Fisher was a stimulating way to spend a couple of hours during lock-down.  It was so lovely to virtually meet the other participants from across the globe, including South Africa, Italy and the UK.  An interactive experience, despite being virtual, there was lots of great collaboration between the participants. Whether you’re an accomplished or amateur critic, a literature student or just have an interest in theatre and the arts, you’ll get a lot of inspiration and great tips. Five stars! – Kerry Teakle, participant

A rewarding two hours of discussion and debate that reminded us of the value of theatre to society and restored faith to those of us feeling despondent about our future.  After two months of silence and isolation, it was an extremely enjoyable and refreshing evening meeting people passionate about theatre who were all confident that theatre and her critics will not die out. Congratulations and thanks to Mark Fisher for keeping the faith and bringing back some hope that the show must go on. Highly recommended. 5 stars – Toby Gough, participant
